March 12, 2020 Official LGC Announcement Regarding COVID-19

March 12, 2020

Dear LGC Community,

At Leadership Greater Chicago, there is no higher priority than the well-being of the LGC community — our employees, Fellows, event guests, speakers, sponsors, and partners. Like you, we take the concern of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak very seriously, and we continue to closely monitor guidance provided by the CDC, the State of Illinois, and the City of Chicago.

In light of growing concerns for the safety of our community, as expressed by Governor Pritzker and Mayor Lightfoot tonight, we have made the decision to postpone or cancel all LGC programs and events through the end of April. This includes the cancellation of our Celebrate Leaders dinner scheduled for April 2. We look forward to finding a time in the future to gather with you to celebrate and recognize our supporters and honorees. Those registered for upcoming LGC events now through April 30 will receive event-specific notifications and refund information via email.

As the situation unfolds, we will send updates like this one via email, our website, and our social media accounts on TwitterFacebookLinkedIn, and Instagram. Please be sure to follow these pages for updates.

We all have a role to play in the prevention of the spread of COVID-19. In that spirit, we want to remind you of the recommendations from the City of Chicago public health officials that include the following health safety tips and social distancing:

  • If you are exhibiting symptoms, please consult the information outlined here to determine your best next steps.
  • Just as you would protect yourself from any virus — like the common cold or flu — the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) recommend washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer to help reduce the spread of germs to others.
  • Avoid close contact with sick people, and minimize person-to-person contact. The virus is spread through respiratory droplets (such as from coughing).
  • Stay at home if you are sick.
  • Don’t send your children to school or daycare if they are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid visiting crowded places.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

Additional information and resources can be found on the following websites:
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Chicago Department of Public Health
Illinois Department of Public Health
World Health Organization

We will continue to make decisions about our operations and activities with the health and well-being of our community as our utmost priority.

Take care of yourselves, and thank you for your continued support of LGC.

Best,

Maria Wynne
Chief Executive Officer
