Leadership Breakfast | The Sights and Sounds of Inclusion: An Artistic Look at Chicago’s Communities
Online registration has closed. Walk-ups are welcome.
Ticket price: $25.00 (nonrefundable)
This is a Fellows-Only event
It’s often said Chicago is a tale of two cities – with some neighborhoods ignored, lacking jobs and businesses, and filled with poverty and crime, while other areas reap the benefits of proper infrastructure, amenities, and access to economic opportunity.
Join us for an unplugged, interactive conversation with social justice artist and photographer Tonika Johnson, who uses art to bridge racial divides. Tonika's Folded Map™ Project visually connects residents who live at corresponding addresses on the North and South Sides of Chicago to illustrate the historic, institutional conditions that segregate the city. Through this journey that portrays the mile by mile disparities of Chicago's neighborhoods, Tonika will help us better understand how the city's urban environment is structured and how each of us are personally and socially impacted by systemic inequality. Audience Q&A will follow.
This event is part of our 2019-20 Leadership Breakfast Series, themed Building an Inclusive Chicago, which is open to ALL Fellows. During this monthly, seven-part series we will delve deep into what it will take to move from a city with opportunities for some to a city with opportunities for all.
We will hear from subject matter experts, community organizers, government officials, entrepreneurs, and corporate leaders who will help us better understand the impact of these inequities and why hiring decisions, job creation, and community investments must prioritize improving the lives of residents from all backgrounds and every corner of our region.
Together, we can ensure Chicago is an inclusive and welcoming place for everyone.
