Open to Fellows, the LGC Class of 2023 and All Hands on Deck Partners only. (All Hands on Deck Partners and the Class of 2023 are pre-registered for each session in this series and not required to register here.)

This conversation will be moderated by WBEZ Reporter Esther Yoon-Ji Kang, who covers race, class and communities. Esther will be joined by Harish Patel, vice president of build the field at Economic Security Project, Lanetta Haynes Turner (LGC Fellow since 2012), chief of staff for Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, and Richard Wallace, founder and executive director of Equity and Transformation (EAT).

Earlier in the series, we introduced you to ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) — U.S. households that earn above the Federal Poverty Level yet struggle to afford basic expenses. ALICE workers are the backbone of our economy, with the pandemic making it crystal clear just how much we need them. How can we help ALICE populations get on solid footing in a way that is sustainable and paves a stable path? In this session, our speakers will discuss one potential solution — the Cook County Guaranteed Income Pilot program. We will learn about the program's progress, almost a year after its launch, and hear about the experience of participants who have received the additional monthly income.

This series is FREE and held virtually via Zoom Webinar to provide a safe and accessible environment for all attendees. Occurring monthly from October 24, 2022–May 18, 2023 (excluding January), each session will be 90 minutes in length (12:00-1:30 p.m. CT), including an optional, post-program discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue with speakers through Q&A and with each other.

In keeping with our tradition of unplugged conversations, sessions will not be available for anyone other than registrants. They will not be publicly broadcast and will not be replayed on public media channels. Sessions will be recorded for archival purposes and provided to registrants only, following each session.

Each session will be captioned. If you require an accommodation to fully participate in the series, please contact the LGC Team at info@lgcchicago.org.
