LGC All Hands on Deck Leadership Series | Chicago, H2O and Infrastructure—Scarcity or Abundance?
Open to Fellows, the LGC Class of 2023 and All Hands on Deck Partners only. (All Hands on Deck Partners and the Class of 2023 are pre-registered for each session in this series and not required to register here.)
Chicago is a global city with an envied resource: Lake Michigan's abundant supply of fresh water. Learn how a city privileged with this abundant resource struggles with equity in a vast water distribution system due to a massive infrastructure of lead pipes supplying largely underserved areas and what is in place to address the issue. At the same time, we will also gain an understanding of an infrastructure exacerbating flooding in areas that most need help. This session will provide a deeper look at the challenges facing neighborhoods and communities as Chicago's infrastructure deteriorates and climate change continues to take its course.
This conversation will be moderated by Chicago Sun-Times Reporter Brett Chase, who covers environmental protection, pollution and public health. Brett will be joined by Chatham Community Resident and Activist Lori Burns, U.S. Senator for Illinois Tammy Duckworth, Environmental Law & Policy Center President and Executive Director Howard Learner (LGC Fellow since 1990), and Little Village Environmental Justice Organization Senior Policy Analyst Brenda Santoyo.
This series is FREE and held virtually via Zoom Webinar to provide a safe and accessible environment for all attendees. Occurring monthly from October 24, 2022–May 18, 2023 (excluding January), each session will be 90 minutes in length (12:00-1:30 p.m. CT), including an optional, post-program discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue with speakers through Q&A and with each other.
In keeping with our tradition of unplugged conversations, sessions will not be available for anyone other than registrants. They will not be publicly broadcast and will not be replayed on public media channels. Sessions will be recorded for archival purposes and provided to registrants only, following each session.
Each session will be captioned. If you require an accommodation to fully participate in the series, please contact the LGC Team at info@lgcchicago.org.
