Top Chicago Executives Selected for Accelerated Civic Onboarding Experience
Today, Leadership Greater Chicago (LGC) is excited to announce the 2021 cohort of The Daniel Burnham Fellowship. The Daniel Burnham Fellowship Fellowship is an accelerated civic onboarding experience for top executives who in their professional roles play a part in shaping the future of Chicago. While beneficial to any executive, it is especially beneficial for those who are new to Chicago and provides a rich introduction to an executive new to their role and with market facing responsibilities. The Fellowship is designed to inspire these leaders to mobilize and exert their combined influence and intellect to positively impact Chicago, its future, and the continued economic progress of the region.
Through cross-industry learning and connections with renowned speakers and peers, The Daniel Burnham Fellowship participants leave with broadened perspectives and strategic opportunities that would otherwise remain unrealized.
“If there is anything this past year has shown us, it’s that our work must continue bravely and boldly,” said Leadership Greater Chicago CEO and Founding Daniel Burnham Fellow Maria Wynne. “These leaders immediately apply their new learnings and perspectives to their approach to business and civic engagement, ultimately driving the change needed to positively impact the trajectory of Chicago and our region.”
The Daniel Burnham Fellowship – a strategic partnership incubator – engages participants in Chicago’s vibrant structure of civic leaders, providing an interconnected view of the key opportunities and challenges facing the business community and region. To date, 44 executives have successfully completed the Fellowship which has resulted in collaborations for COVID-19 relief efforts (funding, public policy, food distribution), community investments, and diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
“The Daniel Burnham Fellows are unique in that they are the decision makers,” said LGC Board Chair Connie L. Lindsey, Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Global Diversity & Inclusion at Northern Trust. “Through this Fellowship, they are each called to urgently impact Chicago’s workforce and the region’s economic progress to benefit all Chicagoans, not just some Chicagoans.”
This afternoon, participants will begin the six-session series which includes the history of Chicago through the lens of urban planning, the region’s workforce forecast, building strategic partnerships for economic development, and driving innovative solutions to build an inclusive Chicago. Ultimately, the call to action for these leaders is to drive job creation and workforce readiness and invest in the betterment of our communities, making it possible for Chicago to reach its full potential.
The Robert R. McCormick Foundation and The Chicago Community Trust are making the participation of two nonprofit leaders possible: Rebekah Scheinfeld, CEO and President of Civic Consulting Alliance, and Karen Tamley, President and CEO of Access Living, respectively.
"Our support of Karen Tamley, President and CEO, Access Living, as The Chicago Community Trust Fellow in The Daniel Burnham Fellowship demonstrates our commitment to convene people, partners, and organizations to leverage our collective power,” said Helene D. Gayle, MD, MPH, President & CEO, The Chicago Community Trust. "It is also a continued vote of confidence in Leadership Greater Chicago and its critical work to develop civic leaders who are leading bold, transformative change for the entire region."
“We are grateful to McCormick Foundation and The Chicago Community Trust for their commitment to supporting our nonprofit leaders in The Daniel Burnham Fellowship,” said Wynne. “We believe the participation of nonprofit executives is critical to rounding out the exposure to the interconnectedness of Chicago’s civic networks for transformative action.”
The Daniel Burnham Fellowship is an extension of the LGC mission and the continued work you do every day as an LGC Fellow. We believe that jointly, the LGC Signature Fellows Program and The Daniel Burnham Fellowship, will advance transformation where it is most needed.
